Kitchen Remodel
It is safe to say that this was a substantial transformation. Before above and after below. We demolished the ceiling, raised it up, and added rafter ties to create a vaulted ceiling. This lends a feeling of spaciousness in this smaller kitchen. Uncovering the floor was like an archeological dig.... layers of plywood and old linoleum were hiding a beautiful gumwood floor. However, there was a substantial amount of rot from past leaks around the sink. After feathering in a large maple patch, it was refinished by Fissette floor sanding. The clients purchased a set of Aster cabinets with a cherry finish from craigslist and together we found a pleasing layout for the new kitchen. We cut down some of the cabinets to fit in the available space and modified some of the doors to accompany them. The beautiful entry door is made by Rogue Valley and is solid fir. The owners found it at Ecobuilding Bargains in Springfield, MA for a fraction of the original price. It's hung in a new jamb, has some Baldwin hardware and is ready for generations of service.
