This was a fun project! Rebop farm in Brattleboro had a gorgeous and energy efficient farm store/community hall built in 2019 by Mathes Hulme Builders. They asked me to transform some of their maple saplings into a rustic railing and I took the challenge. After kiln drying them, I Used a tenoner for an electric drill (which is really a large pencil sharpener) to tightly fit the balusters into 1" holes drilled into the top and bottom cedar rails. By kiln drying the balusters, I know they won't shrink over time and become loose.
